Job Summary
The Lead Project Controls Analyst provides portfolio level financial and performance analysis for the organization’s capital project programs. This role supports the PMO by overseeing portfolio reporting, financial forecasting, and monitoring across the capital projects portfolio.
The position serves as a subject matter expert for portfolio analytics and reporting and provides technical leadership and guidance to Project Controls Analysts and project teams. The role works closely with PMO leadership, Finance, and Project Managers to ensure accurate forecasting, reporting consistency, and improved visibility into portfolio performance.
The successful candidate will drive improvements in portfolio reporting processes, data integrity, and financial analysis to support effective decision-making across the capital portfolio.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead portfolio-level financial analysis across capital projects including budget performance, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Prepare and maintain monthly capital portfolio reporting including executive summaries, dashboards, and performance metrics.
- Analyze project financial data including budgets, commitments, actual costs, and forecasts to identify trends, risks, and variance drivers.
- Support development and maintenance of portfolio financial forecasts and capital spending projections.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of project financial data across systems including SAP, PTS, and other reporting tools.
- Coordinate with Project teams to validate project forecasts and cost projections.
- Develop portfolio dashboards and reporting tools used by PMO leadership to monitor capital program performance.
- Provide guidance to Project Controls Analysts regarding financial analysis, reporting standards, and forecasting methodologies.
- Support capital planning activities including budget development, carryover planning, and portfolio performance reviews.
- Assist with Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) monitoring and reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve portfolio reporting processes, data quality, and financial transparency.
- Support internal and external audit requests and ensure compliance with corporate financial controls and PMO reporting standards.
- Lead portfolio-level analysis of capital funding reallocations (“puts and takes”) to optimize capital utilization and maintain alignment with approved budgets and spending plans.
- Provide storm restoration support as required by the Emergency Restoration Organization.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Business, Construction Management, or related discipline
- Minimum 7 years of experience in project controls, capital project financial analysis, or portfolio reporting
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools
- Experience with SAP, PTS, or similar project financial systems
- Strong understanding of capital project budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information to leadership
- Ability to work across multiple organizations and manage competing priorities
- Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required
Desired
- Utility industry experience
- Experience supporting capital project portfolios or PMO reporting functions
- Knowledge of electric transmission and distribution operations
- Experience developing executive dashboards and portfolio performance reporting
- Knowledge of CWIP, capital financial reporting, and project lifecycle cost management
- Experience using SQL, Power BI, Tableau or other data analytics tools for querying project data and developing portfolio dashboards and reporting solutions
