Job Summary
This position is part of the Asset Management team responsible for managing assets of the Long Island distribution systems up to 13kV and overall coordination and compliance of elements on the electric distribution system with applicable reliability standards. This position is responsible for managing from an engineering and Asset Strategy perspective the overhead and underground distribution systems to insure adherence to our construction standards and material and equipment specifications. The position is responsible for developing and supporting the highest degree of system reliability by assessing the performance of outside plant assets of the distribution system, developing life cycle strategies for these assets, and implementing material and technology improvements. The position is responsible for sponsoring and managing capital projects, programs, and blankets, and managing preventative maintenance programs of critical distribution assets. This position offers problem solving and challenging leadership opportunities on various distribution system planning initiatives and represents Asset Strategy in various key internal and external stakeholder committees.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead a varied technical team of associates, responsible for the development and updating of overhead and underground distribution construction standards, corporate documents, design applications, procedures, and policies for the design, build, maintenance, and replacement of distribution asset classes.
- Support the development of a life cycle strategy and multi-year Asset lifecycle plan for each major distribution asset class, including the investment and maintenance plans that optimize asset performance and lifecycle cost, and satisfy all regulatory and safety objectives.
- Manage analysis of distribution material/equipment asset class performance, its impact on the system, and asset failure trends/history to insure the most cost effective capital spend and efficient allocation of resources.
- Develop Asset specific improvement programs, piloting new design concepts, materials, and equipment on the electric distribution system to drive continuous improvement of asset performance and reliability.
- Manage overhead and underground distribution initiatives, O&M preventive maintenance programs, and major distribution capital programs to meet PSEG/LIPA T&D scorecard and financial metrics.
- Responsible for responding to LIPA and DPS information requests, as well as participating in both internal and LIPA audits related to distribution system projects, programs, and services.
- Manage root cause analysis studies of distribution asset reliability and risk issues.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of experince in the Operation/Design of an electric distribution system, of which 3 years of direct supervisory experience is required
- Detailed knowledge of applicable industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, etc.) related to distribution engineering, design and operation
- Ability to lead and motivate the team members and the ability to effectively collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders is essential to the success of this position
- In depth technical knowledge of major distribution equipment and extensive experience with the operation of such equipment
- Valid US driver's license as this role requires the ability to travel to various substation and off-site locations
