Job Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing a team consisting of management and bargaining unit personnel. The group overseen by this position is responsible for various activities such as cable testing, capital tool budgets, asset management and vacuum excavation activities. The position will supervise and plan the activities performed by the group. Coordinates with internal organizations to ensure the completion of assigned projects within the scheduled time-frame and budget. Coordinates and meets with internal and external customers to avoid complaints and ensure customer satisfaction. Supports the overall Field Engineering and Line Academy group with administration tasks and job oversite. On a rotation basis, will perform stand-by duties in accordance with Electric Transmission and Distribution System Requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Supervises Distribution Supervisors in the Vacuum Excavation group and the Engineers in the Field Engineering group.
- Plans the activities for the Vacuum Excavation group to perform their daily work function and plans the activities for cable testing, manhole inspection programs, transmission cable repairs, the capital tool budget for T&D, and other activities maintained by the Field Engineering group.
- Creates and delivers presentations on the group’s performance to both leadership and bargaining unit personnel.
- Manages more than $10 million in tools, equipment and other physical resources.
- Assists in the preparation, monitoring, and administration of the area budget, as well as of financial documents and reports.
- Teaches employees new policies, procedures and processes and train them to use new equipment, materials and techniques.
- Responsible for the effective utilization of all asigned resources as well as the implementation and enforcement of all safety policies and work practices
Note: Applicants selected for this position will be expected to work overtime in accordance with departmental requirements and required to participate in federally mandated drug testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree with 5 years of electric utility experience in the operation and maintenance of the Electric Transmission and Distribution System.
- In lieu of degree candidates with a minimum of 10 years electric utility experience in the operation and maintenance of Electric Transmission and Distribution System will be considered.
- Including 5 years of supervisory experience (Union workforce supervision preferred).
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills including written and oral communication; Ability to achieve results in challenging situations.
- Strong organizational skills - ability to plan, organize, and control field operations are strongly preferred
- Experience and understanding of Collective Bargaining agreements
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
- This position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid US driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history
- Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required
Desired
- Preference given to candidates with a thorough knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Local Union 1049, as well as the ability to plan, organize, and control field operations.
- Preferences will be given to applicants with project management experience including cost control methods.
