Job Summary
We are seeking a results-driven leader to oversee critical field operations within our Electric Transmission and Distribution systems. You will be responsible for planning and controlling complex projects—including cranes& rigging, Civil construction, and fabrication—while leading a skilled workforce to maintain the integrity of our grid.
This position is responsible for overseeing a team consisting of management and bargaining unit personnel. The Substation Technical Maintenance division is comprised of (4) Field Sections: Cranes & Rigging, Fabrication & Tool Repair, Electric Transformer Shop, and Civil Construction.
The position will direct the supervisors in Cranes/Rigging, Fabrication, Tool Repair shops, and the CIVIL construction group. Overall responsibilities include controlling expenditures, providing input for budgeting and forecasting, equipment maintenance and repair, enforcing safety standards, and the training and development of the workforce.
Job Responsibilities
• Direct the work force activities through the first line supervisors, to meet the operating requirements of Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Operations, and the Construction & Operations organization.
• Ensure all maintenance, operating and security issues that are the responsibility of our organization are being handled in a safe, acceptable manner.
• Ensure the prioritized demand maintenance activities are addressed in a timely manner.
• Implement the integrated work plan established for their areas of responsibility.
• Determine work force assignments and directs work force to the successful completion of all Maintenance and Capital activities for T&D.
• Perform a constant assessment and analysis of the work within their areas of responsibility.
• Provide a field presence on all capital projects for their areas of responsibility.
• Provide representation at the district clearance meetings to ensure planned work can progress as planned.
• Provide technical expertise to resolve equipment maintenance and operations issues.
• Provide a field presence during equipment failures and emergency restoration activities within their district.
• Provide feedback to the Technical Manager regarding engineering design packages and initiate field modifications as required to progress construction activities.
• Implement policies and procedures as they pertain to environmental issues in substations within their areas of responsibility.
• Direct the workforce activities to ensure all maintenance, operating and security issues that are the responsibility of our organization are being handled in an acceptable manner within their areas of responsibility.
• Ensure the prioritized demand maintenance activities are addressed in a timely manner.
• Implement and initiate activities required to resolve contractor issues to ensure equipment installation meets system requirements.
• Administer the Company Policies and Procedures on both the supervisory and contract level.
• Perform field walk downs of future capital projects to determine best construction methods and recommend conceptual estimates. This information is required for establishing work plans.
• Provide representation at safety meetings, lead incident analysis and provide technical expertise in good operations and work method meetings.
Note: Applicant selected for this position will be expected to work overtime in accordance with departmental requirements and required to participate in federally mandated drug testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause.
Job Specific Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree with at least 5 years of experience in Cranes/Rigging, Fabrication, Civil Construction, or Substation Maintenance.
- In place of a degree, we welcome candidates with 10+ years of hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of Electric Transmission and Distribution systems.
- Experience should include a minimum of 5 years in a leadership/supervisory role. Experience managing a Union workforce is highly preferred.
- A strong understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) and a proven ability to manage labor relations effectively.
- Expert organizational skills with the ability to plan, execute, and troubleshoot field operations in real-time.
- Ability to maintain focus and deliver results in high-pressure or challenging field environments.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to translate technical data into clear oral and written instructions.
- Professional working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
- A valid US Driver’s License with a safe driving record is required, as this role involves frequent travel to various company sites and off-site assignments.
- Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
Desired
- Knowledge of electrical test, maintenance and troubleshooting of substation class transformers, breakers and Metal Clad Switchgear
- Familiarity with Commercial Driver’s License and NCCCO crane, rigging and signal person qualifications
- Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Local Union 1049, as well as the ability to plan, organize, and control field operations
