Job Summary
This position manages the planning of the LIPA distribution substation and the associated 13kV and 4kV overhead and underground distribution system. This position plans the distribution system in accordance with Distribution Planning design criteria and ensures adequate capability to reliably serve projected load growth and customer demand. This position also manages studies for the reliable integration of distributed energy resources.
Job Responsibilities
- Review distribution studies and manages the development of ten year plan to adequately serve existing and future load requirements consistent with the planning design criteria.
- Supervise performance and development of feeder and substation load forecasts for Distribution Planning, Operations and Transmission Planning study purposes.
- Review, oversee and approve complex power system design studies (e.g., load flow, short circuit), T&D loss analysis and economic analyses to compare different alternatives, while ensuring the Long Island power system is compliant with governing design criteria.
- Oversee development and support of yearly Capital Budget, includes oversight and presentation of project need, justifications, alternatives and designs to executive leadership for applicable approvals.
- Manage, oversee and drive efforts related to development and use of advanced functions of CYME load flow program to enhance staff productivity and facilitate advanced studies including incorporation of AMI data
- Review and issue applicable summer preparedness reports and supports Distribution Operations for winter and summer operating conditions including analysis of system events, customer complaints and recommend short term solutions to address specific challenges
- Manage the feeder management activities to include assessment of feeder balance and feeder ties to ensure operability, transfer capability, voltage optimization and system utilization
- Manage the performance and review of applicable interconnection studies to facilitate the interconnection of distributed energy resources consistent with LIPA SGIP
- Manage technical studies that involves the integration of renewable technologies consistent with the New York State CLCPA initiatives.
- Participate, support and represent PSEG LI in regulatory proceedings including Rate Case and represent the company in role as lead SME witness in litigation and proceedings.
- Participate as PSEGLI representative at various regulatory, governmental, industry and reliability organizations, such as, NYPSC. This includes review and preparation of documents as well as participation in meetings and public outreach sessions for each of the various events/projects.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 10 years of experience in Distribution Planning or associated utility work.
- Desire to handle multiple challenging projects and the ability to quickly come up to speed is essential. Desire to learn new concepts and attention to details is critical to be successful in this position.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as ability to travel to attend meetings on and off Long Island.
- Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving record since this position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events.
- Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.

- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or MBA
- Professional Engineering License
- Familiarity with planning models (CYME, Aspen, SOS) for load flow, short circuit, voltage, and contingency analyses and capital budget prioritization is preferred, as well as knowledge of engineering economics fundamentals
