Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Meter Engineer to provide engineering support for metering operations across field and shop environments. This role involves investigating meter issues, supporting technical training efforts, and using manufacturer software to develop and test meter programs. The Meter Engineer will also play a key role in evaluating and approving new meter technologies, supporting the procurement process, and ensuring all metering systems function reliably and in compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, technically strong, and committed to continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, including the network infrastructure, meter technologies and back office systems.
- Provide support for the development of new AMI features and functions to enhance the infrastructure.
- Provide technical support as needed for the Meter Inventory Management System (MIMS).
- Provide technical support as needed for the Handheld Meter Reading System (MV-RS)
- Provide technical support as needed for the Field Work Management System (CGI)
- Provide technical support for the design and implementation of System Integration efforts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues associated with all the above systems.
- Provide technical support and direction for the Field Laptop Meter Programming software development and maintenance
- Provide engineering support and direction for the Field and Shop in meter issues investigations.
- Provide as needed training to Shop and Field personnel.
- Using meter manufacturer software, develop programs for meter reading and programming.
- Provide engineering support in evaluating new metering and telecommunications systems.
- Testing, approval, purchase and use of new types of metering and meter test equipment.
- Support special metering designs and activity including primary metering, totalized accounts, TLC accounts, Interchange and IPP metering and conservation related metering programs.
- Review, test and evaluate meter mounting equipment and switchgear.
- Develop and/or enhance existing spreadsheets, databases, and web pages.
- Contribute to opportunity recognition, problem solving, root cause, gap analysis, and process improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate communication of system changes, best practices, and future plans.
- Maintain and apply working knowledge of PSEG-LI Standards for Business Controls and meet management’s expectations for effective internal business controls.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
- Must demonstrate clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
- Must demonstrate effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Must have strong planning and organization skills
- Must be adaptable and results-oriented
- Must have demonstrated leadership skills, professionalism and customer/client focus
- Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history
Desired
- Electrical utility experience
- Familiarity with the transmission and distribution systems
- Able to read / understand electrical one lines
