Job Summary
The FEMA/Power On Engineer will provide project management support to the Senior Project Manager & Senior Construction Supervisor and may be assigned smaller projects to manage at the discretion of the Senior Project Manager. Participate in the development and implementation of project management process improvements across the company. Coordinate communication and exchange of information between internal and external stakeholders (e.g. the project manager, project control, engineering, procurement, construction and contractors).
Coordinate all internal and external communication relative to project on behalf of the Senior Project Manager & Senior Construction Supervisor. Assist in the development of project schedule and estimates resource and material requirements; maintain respective planning and scheduling updates throughout the life of the project. Work closely with the Senior Project Manager to prepare reports detailing project costs, progress, risks and opportunities for review by senior management. Provide support to coordinate quality program requirements and adhere to company standards, procedures and safety programs.
Job Responsibilities
• Solves straight forward project management problems; analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures.
• Assist Senior Project Manager in project tracking & control (e.g. schedule, cost, resources) collecting individual project status information & developing project updates for management review.
• Prepare and maintain project management records and documentation as required.
• Assist Work with License & Permitting Team to obtain regulatory and municipal permits as required.
• Provide the necessary support as outlined in PSEGLI Project Management (PM) Playbook (e.g. project charter, project scope document, project execution plan, project close out report, etc.).
• May serve as Project Manager on smaller projects and take a lead role on straightforward projects.
• Applies team effectiveness skills; contributes to the achievement of team goals.
• Collaborate with the project team to implement and control the project (e.g. Weekly status report, project sponsor updates, and team communications).
• Responds to standard and non-standard requests from customers; investigates with assistance from senior project manager and team as needed.
• Works with guidance from the team to assess and identify solutions to standard and non-standard requests.
• Perform straight forward project management analyses to apply specific skills and knowledge to meet project requirements.
• Support Senior Project Manager and Senior Construction Supervisor with project start-up activities.
• Set up necessary data storage procedures.
• Assist in development of Project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Project Budgets, Project Schedules, and Project Management Plan.
• Provide project execution and control support to senior project manager.
• Assist with development of monthly project reports.
• Support the maintenance of the project schedules and provide status of actual vs. plan.
• Work with Senior Project Manager & Senior Construction Supervisor to track execution of work plans, including tracking project deliverable dates and issuing reminders to team members when appropriate.
• Assist Senior Project Manager with effective facilitation of team and client meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, tracking action items, and proactively following up on action items.
• Provide project closure support to project managers. Draft project description for future projects. Archive project documents according to local procedures. Ensures compliance to regulatory guidelines, procedures and directly supports construction/field supervisors on all projects including coordinating resources (contractors, special equipment, vehicles, tools, etc.), job requirements (switching & clearance requests, outage coordination, flagging, tree trim, etc.), making prints and plaques, and document management in Share Drive for project folders.
• Participate in weekly work plan meetings to discuss status of ongoing work, upcoming work & provide information on job readiness.
• Coordinate with materials management to ensure materials are available to meet schedules, assist in the management of material requirements, and report material deficiencies to the appropriate stakeholders.
• Communicate with customers in order to coordinate appointments, planned outages in OMS, as well as rob calls and resolution of inquiries and any other communications that may be necessary.
• Assist in preparing complete work packages with all required documents (maps, procedures, NRAs, etc.) for construction personnel
• On limited basis, supervises installation and maintenance of underground and overhead transmission and distribution facilities with contractor personnel
• Assist construction/field supervisors to ensure projects are properly closed out and documented in SharePoint.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
• A minimum of 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong planning and organizing skills; adaptable and results-oriented
• Possess leadership skills, professionalism and customer/client focus
• As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history
Preferred / Desired Skills:
• Electrical utility experience
• Familiarity with the transmission and distribution systems
• Able to read / understand electrical one lines
