Job Summary
The Director of Energy Efficiency leads the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy organization, providing oversight for the entire Efficiency and Renewable portfolio, including Large C&I, Commercial Efficiency, Small Business, Home Performance Direct and Home Performance with Energy Star, Residential Energy Affordability Program (REAP), Home Comfort, Solar PV, Battery Storage, Electric Vehicles, Solar Thermal, Demand Response and other efficient and renewable technologies. The role is responsible for developing and delivering customer-facing efficiency initiatives, securing regulatory approval, managing program performance, and driving measurable reductions in energy consumption on behalf of customers. The role leads the Company’s annual Utility 2.0 filing in accordance with the goals and objectives of t New York State’s energy goals, and supports ongoing customer transition to time of use pricing plans and other initiatives to drive cost savings and improve system load factor.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan, lead, and manage the activities of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy portfolio to meet the needs of Long Island customers (cost and energy savings), while achieving annual and long-range targets identified the in New York State’s energy goals, such as MMBTU savings, whole-house heat pump installations, low-income spending and housing weatherization. Support on-going customer transition to time of use pricing plans and other initiatives to drive cost savings and improve system load factor.
- Promote the growth and adoption of beneficial electrification programs consistent with New York State’s energy plan and the Public Service Commission’s 2025 order related to Low- to Moderate-Income (LMI) Energy Efficiency and Building Electrification (EE/BE) to improve energy affordability and accelerate clean energy access with a focus on heat pump adoption, weatherization, and no-cost efficiency improvements for eligible households. Support the Project Management Office responsible for implementing various Utility 2.0 initiatives such as innovate rates, retail battery storage and EV charging stations.
- Create and implement plans designed to meet the needs of customers and the organization, including marketing, culture change, customer satisfaction, budgeting, and long-range planning to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
- Collaborate closely with Power Market and Power Supply stakeholders (PSEG Long Island and LIPA) to understand and evaluate how energy efficiency and clean energy initiatives affect electric system capacity, reliability and long-term grid performance.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and promote transparent and effective inter-organizational relationships and communication with departments. Convey clear, candid, accurate, and timely information to the appropriate people internally and externally.
- Lead a high-performing team.
- Work closely with regulators and partners (LIPA and DPS) to support statewide goals.
- Actively engage and collaborate with other external stakeholders, including industry and trade associations, manufacturers and contractors to advance goals and objectives of energy efficiency, renewables, beneficial electrification, and related programs.
- Deliver periodic presentations to the LIPA Board of Trustees, NYS Department of Public Service and industry groups and associations.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EE&RE) experience, with a strong business sense for establishing structure and vision for measuring and driving success
- Extensive knowledge of energy efficiency and renewable energy technology, policy, program planning, design and implementation
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop talent, drive results, and implement innovative strategies and initiatives. Strong stakeholder management and public presentation skills
- Demonstrated strong customer service focus, with a strong business sense for driving initiatives to meet customer, business and operational needs
- Ability to interpret, analyze and synthesize customer/industry feedback to plan and organize long and short-term marketing/business strategies
- Track record of delivering metric based operational improvements to successfully drive achievement of desired results. Ability to leverage data analytics to track key performance indicators
- Proven application of problem-solving, quality improvement, project management, performance management, process analysis, and technical concepts
- Financial and regulatory acumen. Demonstrated experience planning and organizing all operational activities and departmental financial functions including budgets, work plans, forecasts, and scheduling
- Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required

- EE&RE Program Management experience
- Strong technical understanding of energy efficiency and renewable technologies and trends
- Advanced degree preferred, particularly with business focus, i.e., MBA
